Comments from the band

In the past ten years, "Throwing Copper" has transformed from a record that defined a band to a record that helped to define a whole movement in music. Its greatness was something that we all intuited while we were making it, but like any timeless piece of art, its appeal has grown in depth and dimension far beyond those early intimations. So here's to "Throwing Copper" and to a future filled with deep lyrics, haunting melodies, and music that goes straight to the heart of the matter.

The fondest memory for me about Throwing Copper was the recording of "The Dam at Otter Creek." A Minnesota thunder storm had just rolled in at about dusk and we looked at each other and said "it is time for The Dam at Otter Creek." We started recording the song and as the storm climaxed outside so did the song inside. At the end of the first take I think we all knew that this song was the opener of the album. I remember the first time we listened to the whole record after recording all of the songs and thinking this record is a classic. I didn't know that it would go on to sell over 8 million copies and give us things we could have never imagined. Thanks to all of you for helping to make that dream come true. Happy 10th Throwing Copper!!!!!

To most people Throwing Copper is our greatest record, to me it has been the ultimate rock n' roll dream.

What a decade!

I remember it seemed like we drove off to rock n roll summer camp to record our second record. The funky cedar house, the musty bedrooms that we shared, the stream that ran below the studio, everything was there. My dog Stew was along for the ride as well. I'm not sure how that happened. We worked the days and checked out the local views, Clowns and Peelers, at night. The four of us grew up very quickly those few weeks. Our friendship was getting as close as ever and we were starting to hit a musical stride. Ed and Chad brought some great ideas in. Ed and I banged out Waitress.
It was our time to shine. I think we did. Thanks
